Job Title:
Tax Manager

Description:
We are seeking a federal Tax Manager for Torchmark subsidiary corporations, including preparation of quarterly and year-end federal income tax provisions and returns.  Additional responsibilities will include:
  • Assistance with developing, analyzing, and documenting tax planning opportunities, tax compliance issues and other special projects.
  • Assistance with resolution of issues raised during Internal Revenue Service examinations
  • Assistance with the analysis and implementation of new developments in tax law and the communication of relevant changes to company personnel
  • Communication with financial reporting personnel
  • Active pursuit of individual professional development and continuing education opportunities
Education:
An undergraduate and/or graduate degree in accounting required; MS in Taxation and CPA designation preferred
Qualifications:
  • 4-6 years of tax compliance/consulting experience in public accounting or corporate tax department
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP (FAS 109/FIN 48), corporate tax compliance, and corporate consolidated returns.  US insurance income tax experience desirable but not required
  • Strong tax research skills/abilities
  • Solid PC and Excel skills required
  • Good managerial, organizational, and written communications skills
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to contribute to a culture of excellence and accountability
  • Ability to interact with others in the department and Company while demonstrating individual initiative, resourcefulness, and independent thinking
  • Ability to managing multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
